Nausea

Eat small meals slowly, reduce fatty and spicy foods, and take frequent sips of fluid.

Constipation

Increase fluids, move daily, and add fibre gradually. Do not wait until pain becomes severe.

Heartburn and belching

Reduce portion size, avoid spicy and fatty foods, and do not lie down for 2–3 hours after eating.

Diarrhoea

Take fluids and oral rehydration solution in small amounts and eat light meals. Watch for dizziness or reduced urine.

Do not wait with these warning signs

  • Severe, persistent upper abdominal pain or pain spreading to the back.
  • Repeated vomiting or inability to keep fluids down.
  • Severe abdominal swelling with pain and inability to pass gas or stool.
  • Swelling of the face or tongue, or difficulty breathing.
  • Upper-right abdominal pain with fever or yellowing of the skin or eyes.
  • Severe dizziness, fainting, palpitations, or clearly reduced urine.
