Check recovery and recurring pain
Keep your review even if pain improves, especially if tests or biopsies are pending. Some ulcers need further endoscopy or other checks, particularly when symptoms persist or an ulcer does not heal. If H. pylori was treated, make sure a test to confirm eradication is arranged.
Contact a clinician promptly
Seek prompt assessment if pain is worsening or persistent, you repeatedly vomit, appetite falls or weight drops without trying. Feeling full after very little food also deserves review. Ongoing fatigue, pallor or breathlessness may reflect anaemia from blood loss that is not visibly apparent.
Go for urgent care with bleeding or severe pain
Get urgent medical help for vomiting blood or coffee-ground material, black tarry stool or significant rectal bleeding. Sudden severe abdominal pain, a very tender abdomen, fainting or marked dizziness may signal a serious complication. Do not wait for a routine appointment or drive yourself if faint or unwell.
