Review results and the target
Discuss your result and target, and ask when to repeat testing after changes to habits or treatment. Age, diabetes, heart disease, and other conditions influence the target. Bring previous results and your medicine list, and mention new diagnoses or family history not previously discussed.
New symptoms or medicines
Report new unexplained muscle pain or weakness while taking a statin. Severe pain with marked weakness or red or brown urine needs urgent assessment. Tell the pharmacist about all your medicines before adding a new treatment or supplement, because interactions can increase adverse effects.
Signs of a heart problem or stroke
Call emergency services for persistent squeezing chest pain or pain spreading to the arm or jaw, or sudden face or arm weakness or speech difficulty. These need emergency assessment even after a reassuring cholesterol result or if stroke symptoms resolve within minutes. Do not drive yourself.
